Training: Creating a One-Time Report

What You'll Learn

In this training article, we'll show you how to:

  • Use the Platform's built-in tools to create a one-time report.
  • Export your report in a number of formats, or have it emailed to a specific address.

Did you know? You can find your completed reports anytime by clicking the Reports link in the upper-right corner of the Platform.

What is a One-Time report?

The Platform features comprehensive reporting features, and the best place to start is with the one-time report. This is a natural extension of the Platform's grid tools, including the View Builder, date range selector, and filters. We'd recommend that you complete the Training article for the View Builder before continuing with one-time reports.

one-time report is a handy way to create a collection of specific data from your account, then either export it (as a CSV or PDF) or email it to an address. You're able to tweak a wide range of parameters for your report, including every grid column as well as specific performance metrics. You can also include charts in your report for added visual depth. A report like this offers a great insight into your account, and can be very helpful in making decisions about your campaign management.

If you're all set, let's make a start.

See it in action

Join a member of the Marin Software team as we explain how to set up the grid, then run a one-time report and either export it or email it. Don't worry, the whole process is very quick and easy.

How to

The step-by-step visual guide below is a great accompaniment to your first one-time report. Why not keep this page open in one tab and work on your first report in the other? We'll cover all of the essentials, so let's begin.

  1. As always, the first step is to log in to the Platform as normal.
  2. Head to any one of the main Platform grids, including Campaigns, Groups, Keywords, Creatives and more. In our example, we'll head to the main Keywords tab to create our report.
  3. Once you're looking at the right grid, click into the View Builder and start building your view. Essentially, your aim here is to include all of the data that you'd like to see in your report. Take full advantage of all available columns, arrange them in the order that makes sense for your report, and use the Advanced Builder section to add a custom date range and text filters.

  4. After completing the setup of your chosen view, click Save to head back to the grid. You'll see that your new view is now in place. The next step is to click Create Report to begin the creation of your one-time report.

  5. You'll see a number of different options that you can include as part of your one-time report. First, ensure that the One-time radio button is selected at the top of the bubble. Next, give your report a name and choose the format (either CSV or PDF). You can also enter an email address to have your one-time report sent.

  6. Finally, you can choose to include objects with zero clicks (like new keywords), decide how to group your data using the Show data by drop-down, and alter the dates that the report covers. Once all of your options are complete, click Continue.
  7. You'll see a message confirming that your new report has been sent for processing. To pick it up, click the Reports link in the upper-right corner of the Platform, then ensure the Completed Reports sub-tab is selected.

  8.  You should see your new report at the very top of the grid. To download it, simply click the Download button in the Format column. You can also import a CSV report into a spreadsheet editor like Microsoft Excel. If you chose to have your report emailed, you should also find it in your inbox.
  9. That's it, all done. You can use one-time reports to export quick snapshots of your data for analysis, reporting and more. Want to set up a report that repeats automatically? Then please see our Recurring Reports Training article.

Try it yourself

Sometimes the very best way to learn is to try something yourself. That's why we created the following interactive section which you can use to create a one-time report. Don't worry, this is a totally isolated experience and not connected to any live data. It's simply a demo exercise to help you get to grips with creating one-time reports in the Platform.
