Training: The Advanced View Builder

What You'll Learn

In this training article, we'll show you how to:

  • Use the advanced features of the View Builder to optimize your grid views
Did you know? The Advanced View Builder is available from any main grid. Just click View Builder, then open the Advanced Builder section.

What is the Advanced View Builder?

The Platform's Advanced View Builder offers deeper functionality than its standard counterpart, allowing you to customize your view better than ever before. The Advanced Builder is accessible from any main grid, and allows you to set up custom time frames for change metrics, as well as adding filters to include only the types of data that matter to you. On top of that, the Advanced Builder also allows you to show data from specific publishers as well as object status.

To access the Advanced Builder, simply click the View Builder link in the upper-right of any of the main Platform grids, then open the Advanced Builder section in the pane.

See it in action

Join a member of the Marin Software team as we show you how to use the Advanced View Builder to adjust the timeframe of your view, make the most of change columns, and add custom filters.

Click the play button to get started.  (Length: 3:04).

How to

Want to follow step-by-step instructions as you work in the Platform? Our handy visual guide below will help. We'll outline each of the key features of the Advanced View Builder, and show you how you can start using it right away to customize your experience.

Let's get started.

  1. First, you'll need to log in to the Platform as you normally would, then navigate to any one of the main grids. In our example, we've chosen the Campaigns grid.
  2. Next, click the View Builder link on the right of the grid. Once the View Builder pane pops up, simply scroll down if necessary then click on Advanced Builder.
  3. You'll see the main options offered by the Advanced BuilderTimeframe, Change vs., Filters and Sort options. Let's take a look at each of these in more detail.

  4. With the Timeframe section, you can choose a period of time between two dates for which data will be shown in the grid. You can also choose a custom timeframe such as Last Week or Month to Date

  5. The Change Vs. section allows you to set a criteria for your change columns. In the View Builder, you can choose to add columns that will show the change in value as either a number or a percentage. The Change Vs. section here allows you to choose the look-back period. For example, you could set this to show how much your click traffic has changed in the last week, either in raw numbers or as a percentage.

  6. The Filters section is great for refining your grid view. Using the various options, you can filter for specific text values in keywords, campaign names, and so on. You can also filter to show only specific publishers, match types or status of objects. Want to check the data for all of your keywords containing the word 'car'? This is how to do it.

  7. The final section of the Advanced View Builder is the Sort section. This allows you to order your customized view by certain criteria in either descending or ascending order. For example, you could set the grid so that it showed the objects with the most clicks right at the top and descend from there. It's just another way that Marin Enterprise makes data analysis and management really easy.

  8. That's it! Your advanced view has now been fully customized and it's time to click Save. The grid will be updated with all of your selections and you'll have the info you need at your fingertips.

Try it yourself

We often find that the best way to learn about a feature in a piece of software is to try it yourself. But we also understand that there's a risk of making unwanted changes to your data. That's why we've created these Try It Yourself interactive features. This is a totally isolated demo for you to try your hand at the Advanced View Builder. It's not connected to any live data, and you're free to run through it as many times as you like -- results are not recorded.

Just click below to get started.
