"The Client Has Tried to Create an Entity that Goes Beyond the Size Limits on AdWords" (Google only)

Introduction

The following error occurs when trying to bulk-add a number of keywords, creatives, groups, and campaigns that exceeds the number allowed by AdWords.

Error: [The client has tried to create an entity that goes beyond the size limits on AdWords]

What causes the issue?

Google Ads has a default limitation on the number of certain entities that can exist in the account (ie. restricted number of campaigns per account, keywords per group, etc.). If you are trying to add/upload new objects in the Platform and come across the following error: “The client has tried to create an entity that goes beyond the size limits on AdWords”, you have reached this default limitation.

Contacting your Google Rep

Please reach out to your Google representative to request to have these limits expanded. Once this has been done, adding new entities should no longer produce this error.

Google Ads Account Limits

These are the limits on a Google Ads account:

Campaign and ad group limits

  • 10,000 campaigns (includes active and paused campaigns)

  • 20,000 ad groups per campaign

  • 20,000 ad group targeting items per ad group (such as keywords, placements, and audience lists)

Ad limits

  • 300 image/gallery ads

  • 50 text and non-image/gallery ads per ad group

  • 4 million active or paused ads per account

Targeting limits

  • 5 million ad group targeting items per account (such as keywords, placements, and audience lists)

  • 1 million campaign targeting items per account (such as geo target and campaign-level negative keywords)

  • 10,000 location targets (targeted and excluded) per campaign, including up to 500 proximity targets per campaign

  • 20 shared negative placement lists per account

  • 65,000 placements per negative placement list

  • 11,000 shared budgets per account

  • 20 shared negative keyword lists per account

  • 5,000 keywords per negative keyword list

Ad extension limits

  • 400,000 unique feed items per account. A feed item is a unique piece of data for an extension, such as a sitelink, phone number, review, or location.

  • 250,000 ad group-level extensions per account**

  • 50,000 campaign-level extensions per account**

  • 10,000 ad group-level extensions per campaign**

** For example, let's say you have 1 campaign with an extension containing 8 sitelinks. Then you add these same sitelinks to another campaign and also to 10 ad groups in a third campaign. Now, your account has 8 feed items, 2 campaign-level extensions, and 10 ad group-level extensions.

Creating a New AdWords Account

Another option is to create an additional AdWords account to which you may add more campaigns, groups, keywords, and creatives. This may be a more efficient option if you have a large account as it may help with organization.
