Upgraded Custom Audience Pixel Migration Overview

Introduction

This article will help you to decide whether or not to migrate to the newly upgraded Facebook Custom Audience pixel. We will outline a few potential cases so that you can decide which strategy will suit your business best.

Case 1: Current Custom Audience Pixel and Conversion Pixel installed

Following are our recommendations if you currently have both the existing Custom Audience pixel and the Conversion pixel installed on your site.

Solution 1

  • Migrate to the upgraded Custom Audience pixel. This is our recommended course of action.
  • Remove all of your Facebook pixels from your website and replace them with the upgraded Custom Audience pixel.
  • Example: If you have previously had two conversion pixels; sale and lead, you would now fire two events; Purchase and Lead.

Solution 2: take no action

  • Continue to use the older Custom Audience pixel. You will still be able to build custom audiences.
  • Continue to use the standard Conversion pixel. You will still be able to track conversions.

Note: Conversion pixels will be deprecated in the future, so we advise you to choose solution 1.

Case 2: only the current custom audience pixel installed

Following are our recommendations if you currently have only the existing Custom Audience pixel installed on your site.

Solution 1

  • Migrate to the upgraded Custom Audience pixel. This is our recommended course of action.
  • Remove the Custom Audience pixel from your website and replace it with the upgraded Custom Audience pixel.

Solution 2: take no action

  • Continue to use the older Custom Audience pixel. You will still be able to build custom audiences.

Case 3 : only the current conversion tracking pixel installed

Following are our recommendations if you currently have only the Conversion Tracking pixel installed on your site.

Solution 1

  • Add the newer upgraded Custom Audience pixel to your website. This is our recommended course of action.
  • Remove the Custom Audience pixel from your website (if present) and replace it with the upgraded Custom Audience pixel.

Solution 2: take no action

  • Continue to use the Conversion Tracking pixel. You will still be able to build custom audiences.
