Syncing Advanced Guide

What you'll learn

In this article, we'll show you how to:

  • Manually bring in changes you've made on the publisher's side. 
  • Understand how the Platform automatically syncs changes each night. 
     
A 'publisher' is the company with whom you run your ads. Common publishers include Google, Facebook, and Microsoft.

How to


There are two ways that changes are brought into the Platform: an automatic nightly sync or a manual sync.

Below are quick guides to both of these options:

Automatic Nightly Sync    

Each night, the Platform will run a cost report, then compare the status and value of each object with it. This is known as the Automatic Nightly Sync. If there are any differences, the Platform will update those objects automatically. During this nightly sync, the Platform will also download all of the impression and click metrics for the previous day. 

The automatic nightly sync is designed so that all changes will be up-to-date by 9am in the time zone of the account. 

Manual Sync - Group Level    

If you have made changes on the publisher's side that you'd like to sync to the Platform, you can perform a manual sync (a.k.a hard sync). You can use this method to sync groups

To do so, just follow these steps:

  1. First, click on the Groups tab.
     
  2. Next, use the checkboxes in the grid to select the objects you'd like to sync with the publisher.
     
  3. Click the Sync button ('two arrows in a circle') above the grid. Note: The Platform will warn you that syncing now will overwrite any changes you've made in the app but not yet sent to the Publisher.

     


     
  4. In the bubble, click the Sync button.
     
  5. A confirmation message will appear and the sync operation will be queued in the Activity Log.
     
  6. You're done!

 

Note: Yahoo! Gemini objects can be only synced in the platform by the entire Yahoo! Gemini publisher account. If you try to sync campaigns or groups manually you will receive the  'Synchronization is not supported' error. To syn a Yahoo! Gemini publisher account:

1. Go to the Channels tab.

2. Click on the Manage Accounts button above the grid.

3. Click on the Sync Account button to sync the publisher account.

Manual Sync - Campaign Level*

If you have made changes on the publisher's side that you'd like to sync to the Platform, you can perform a manual sync (a.k.a hard sync) to sync at the campaign level. 

*Note that a Manual Sync at the Campaign level is a Beta feature. You may see the campaign sub-tab from the Account Manager, but if you do no have the Beta enabled, you will not be able to perform this sync. If you are a Marin Professional client looking to perform a Manual Sync at the campaign level, please reach out to your account team.
 

To do so, just follow these steps:

  1. First, click on the Channels tab.
     
  2. Next, click on the Manage Accounts button.  This will launch the Linking Wizard.
     
  3. Within the Linking Wizard, choose the desired publisher account from the list at the left-hand side.
     
  4. Click on the Campaigns sub-tab.
     
  5. Use the checkboxes to select the desired campaigns. You can sort columns or use the search bar to quickly identify the campaigns that need to be synced.

  6. Click the Sync button ('two arrows in a circle') above the grid.
     
  7. The sync operation will be queued in the Activity Log.
     
  8. Click Finished to close the Linking Wizard.
     
  9. You're done!

Manual Sync for Yahoo! Gemini

Yahoo! Gemini objects can be only synced in the platform by the entire Yahoo! Gemini publisher account. If you try to sync campaigns or groups manually you will receive the  'Synchronization is not supported' error. To sync a Yahoo! Gemini publisher account:

 

1. Go to the Channels tab.

2. Click on the Manage Accounts button above the grid.

3. Click on the Sync Account button to sync the publisher account.
