Creating a new Slack Alert:
- In Slack, navigate to settings and click ‘Preferences,’ then select ‘Messages and Media’.
- Scroll to the bottom, where you’ll see ‘Bring emails into Slack.’ Click ‘Get a Forwarding Address’ to create a custom email address that will send Alerts right to Slack.
- Copy that email address.
- From any reporting grid in Marin, define the criteria for the alert in the grid using filters. Alerts are usually based on Change Columns.
- Then, press ‘Export’ to create the Alert by scheduling a recurring report.
- Paste the Slack email address in the Email To: field
7. Hit ‘Run Report’
And boom! Now that Alert will be delivered to you via Slack every time it’s triggered.

Updating an existing Alert to be delivered via Slack:
- In Marin, navigate to ‘Reports’ > ‘Scheduled’ to see your existing Alerts.
- Double-click on the name of the report you want to update. This will open the editing side panel.
- In Slack, navigate to settings and click ‘Preferences,’ then select ‘Messages and Media’.
- Scroll to the bottom, where you’ll see ‘Bring emails into Slack.’ Click ‘Get a Forwarding Address’ to create a custom email address that will send Alerts right to Slack.
- Copy that address.
- Paste the address under ‘Email Recipients’ in the Alert’s settings and click save.
And there you have it! Your existing Alert will now be delivered via Slack every time it’s triggered.
Sending an Alert to a shared Slack channel:
- In Slack, navigate to the channel’s settings and click ‘Integrations.’
- Select ‘Send emails to this channel.’
- Click ‘Get Email Address’ to get a custom address for that channel
- Follow the steps listed in the previous sections to add that email address as a recipient to your new or existing Alert.
And you’re all set! Now, your whole team will be alerted via Slack any time an Alert is triggered. That way, you’ll stay on the same page and can work together to take immediate action.
