"Explicit bid is invalid for transition"

What is the issue?

Showcase Shopping Ads are not supported in the Marin Pro or Enterprise platforms. We will sync in campaigns, groups, and product groups, but the ads themselves are not synced because they are not currently supported.

When you attempt to edit product groups or bids in Showcase ad groups, you will experience the following error.

Error: Explicit Bid Is Invalid For Transition
Note: Though Showcase Shopping Ads are not supported in the Marin Pro or Enterprise platforms, they are supported in MarinOne. If you'd like to learn more about MarinOne, please reach out to a platform representative. 

What causes the issue?

There are two main reasons for this error:

  1. Attempting to edit a bid
  2. Attempting to edit a product group

Attempting to Edit a bid

When attempting to edit the bid, you may see this error due to the type of ad you are trying to bid on. With Showcase Shopping ad groups, it is expected functionality for Google Ads to be unable to make bids at the product group level.

You can find out more information in the article: Create a Showcase Shopping Ad. Specifically, please review the following section regarding bidding:

"Enter the bid for the ad group. This is the cost-per-engagement bid that will be applied to your Showcase Shopping ad. You can change the bid at any time. You can't make any bid adjustments on product groups like you can for Product Shopping ads. You'll pay when someone clicks to expand your ad, and spends 10 seconds within your ad, or clicks a link."

If you were to attempt to send a product group bid from the Marin interface, Google Ads would not be able to accept it as they do not permit bid edits at the product group level. 

Attempting to Edit a Product Group

Clients may also encounter this issue when attempting to edit a product group in a Showcase Shopping ad group type. The workaround for this issue would be to make any product group edits directly in the Google Ads interface.
